Construction began in 1963 and was completed in 1968 to block the Pao River and Huai Yang at Ban Nong Song Hong, Lampao Subdistrict, Mueang Kalasin District; resulting in twin reservoirs on the north side of the dam Therefore, a trench was dug to connect the two reservoirs to store 1,430 million cubic meters of water, built for flood relief and especially for agriculture.
